Sticky: Change Your Life With The Seasons

Fall is in the air! The dog days of Summer are gone. The leaves are making their vibrant color changes and wafting to the ground.  It’s the season of football and pumpkins, bonfires and Halloween, cozy sweaters and warm cider. Our homes are decorated with the bounty, and the color, of the fall harvest – pumpkins, gourds, hay bales, Indian corn. It’s a season of unbelievable beauty, of energy and a time of change.

As I took a walk around my neighborhood yesterday, I was struck by the vibrant colors of the leaves that had fallen and the crunching sound they made as I walked over them. It made me smile and think back to my childhood. I remember my dad raking up the leaves into big piles and me running full blast into them, scattering them in many directions.  Throwing them up in the air and having them fall on me in a shower of gold, crimson, yellow and brown, I can feel the warmth of the smile on my dad’s face as he looks on with joy. It’s the nip in the air at this time of year that energizes and awakens our senses and renews our spirit.Susan_Karim

The change in seasons is the perfect time to reflect on those changes we want to make in our lives. Now that you have changed your closets for the season and will soon set your clocks to “fall back” in time, think about what other changes you may want to make as you strive to transform yourself this Fall.

Here are a few suggestions to get you thinking:

1. What can you do to show your most vibrant self this Fall?  What is it you want right now?  How can you be even more true to yourself?  What can you do to surround yourself with more beauty?

2. What routine(s) would you like to “fall back” into?  Any old hobbies you would like to bring back into your life?  What is it that you really miss doing or participating in?

3. What is holding you back?  What keeps getting in your way or is making you flounder?  What antiquated beliefs are you clinging to?  What clutter can be cleared from your home or work space?

4. What are you ready to tackle this Fall?  What changes or fixes have you been putting off?  What steps can you take in order to fulfill your desires?  Be like a child and jump into the pile of leaves!  Bring back that insatiable childhood energy and start something new.

5. What things or activities do you need to start saying “no” to?  What is it that’s draining your energy?  What is it you want, or need, to stop doing?

Begin your transformation this fall by reflecting and making changes in your life. Relax, sit down, and look at the beauty that is unfolding outside your window.  What color are the leaves?  Red, yellow, crimson, brown?  How long does it take them to flutter to the ground?  Are they being blown around or are they falling like a rain shower?  Take a deep breath in and slowly let it out.  With a favorite pen and a piece of paper (and perhaps a warm cup of tea, cider, or cocoa), start writing down your thoughts.  Keep on writing, but do not edit what you have written.  By pondering on the above questions, you are taking the first steps toward making changes in your life and getting closer to something you truly want. It doesn’t matter on the size of the steps, only that you are making them. What things on your list really stand out?

Enhanced awareness of what we want, what things we miss and what things we are tolerating is a start. Celebrate this season of change by identifying the changes you would like to see in your everyday life. Dive into Fall with a plan to energize yourself, to live a more fulfilling life, and to celebrate new beginnings and a new you.
